Sudbury reporting a drop in Blue Box Supply

The City of Greater Sudbury is reporting a shortage in blue boxes. All due to a decrease in the supply to make the boxes themselves. The City says, for the short term, they have no choice but to take blue box requests from residents moving into a new home, with a maximum of three blue boxes per order.
 

Woman charged after failing to pay a cab

A West Nipissing woman has some tough questions to answer, after allegedly trying to stiff a cab. The failure to pay happened on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls. As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old, from West Nipissing, was arrested is charged with “Transportation Fraud.”
 

Timmins Police looking for 26-year-old Tia Issac-Reid

The Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing woman. 26-year-old Tia Issac-Reid commonly resides in Timmins.
She is described as:
• An Indigenous female person with a slim build.
• 5’4”’ tall -120 lbs
• long, brown hair
• brown eyes
This person was last seen on Thursday, June 18th. She is believed to be wearing a grey and white striped sweatshirt, light blue jeans with rips and black shoes.
 

Fire hazard remains low to extreme across the North East

Despite the cooler start to the day… Parts of the Greater Sudbury area continue to remain at an extreme fire hazard rating. The fire hazard remains low to extreme across the Northeast Region. Recent scattered precipitation has lowered the fire hazard in some parts of the region, while others who have not seen precipitation maintain a high hazard.
 

Hotel property eyed for affordable housing

North Bay’s community services committee is recommending city council rezone a property on Highway 11 north. It’s all to make way for the conversion of an existing motel into affordable housing units. Located on Highway 11, the property lot is 0.4 hectares in size, is located just south of Berkley Boulevard and is about four kilometres north of Bay Truck Stop.
 

LU seeing a drop in first-year enrollment for the fall

Laurentian University is expected a significant drop this fall when it comes to first-year students. Stats from the Ontario Universities Application Centre show first-year enrolment confirmations are down 30 percent at LU. The school says most students would have applied in January, before the university declared insolvency on Feb. 1 demonstrating the impact on enrolment.

Individual found deceased by Lake Nipissing

North Bay Police are investigating after an individual has been found deceased by Lake Nipissing. The area in question is in the West Ferris section of North Bay. No further information is being released at this time.
 

McIntyre Headframe getting restored at Hollinger Pit

A Timmins-based Construction company has been awarded a contract for the restoration of the McIntyre headframe. The City council gave the go-ahead thumbs up to the project that will cost roughly $520,000. Currently, the headframe is being used by Newmont (Corporation) as part of its operations for the Hollinger pit.
 

Boil water advisory in Elliot Lake area lifted

The city of Elliot Lake says a boil water advisory has been lifted in the Lakeview and North Industrial area. In short, all water samples taken in the area have returned from the laboratory showing no evidence of contamination. Algoma Health and the city are thanking the public for their patience.
 

Soo Police looking for Sea-doo and trailer thieves

Sault Ste Marie Police are hoping to identify two suspects involved in the theft of a Sea-Doo. A news release issued today by Crime Stoppers states that the Sea-Doo and trailer were taken from a business in the White Oak Drive and Sackville Road. The Sea-Doo is a 2001 GTXDI, BRP, blue and silver in colour. The Sea-Doo and trailer combined is a loss of approximately $5,000.
Suspect one is described as a male and is dressed in all black. Suspect two is described as male, wearing a white scarf, grey jacket, black hat, and jeans. The suspect vehicle is described as a grey extended cab truck.
