Vandals damaged a statue at a church at Sudbury church… again

For a second time in six years, vandals have damaged a statue at a church in Sudbury’s downtown core. So far this year, officials at Sainte-Anne-Des-Pins Catholic Church said the statue has been vandalized on two separate occasions and anyone with information is asked to call the police.
 

Bernier in Northern Ontario this weekend

People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier will pay another visit to Northern Ontario this weekend. He makes a stop in Iroquois Falls at ten o’clock at Anson Park.  A second event is at Lake Commando in Cochrane at one o’clock, and wraps up the day in Timmins with an event at Participark, next to the Mattagami River. He then travels to North Bay for an event at Lee Park Sunday at 1 pm.
 

Special air quality statement in effect for Sault area

A special air quality statement is in effect for the Sault Ste Marie, St. Joseph Island, Searchmont, and Batchawana Bay. Smoke plumes from active fires in northwestern Ontario and eastern Manitoba will continue, resulting in poor air quality and reducing visibility.
 

OPP use spike belt to stop unsafe driver

OPP has arrested a Brampton man accused of unsafe driving. It happened on Highway 17. OPP located the motor vehicle near Lorne Falls Road in Greater Sudbury, but the driver failed to stop for police. A spike belt was deployed successfully and the vehicle was safely stopped. The driver was subsequently arrested. The 28-year-old driver is facing a number of charges.
 

Low-barrier shelter in North Bay to open August 1

The low-barrier shelter for those in need in North Bay will reopen Aug. 1st. DSSAB says the low-barrier shelter on Chippewa Street West was closed this summer to provide better “health and safety” for those who need shelter services. Motels were used because they provide added health and safety protocols by offering the homeless private rooms.
 

Englehart OPP investigate mischief

Temiskaming OPP responded to a call for mischief, on Third Street, in the Town of Englehart. Further investigation revealed an individual exited a residence with a bat and allegedly caused damage to a camping trailer that was parked near the property. A 22-year-old resident of Englehart is facing a number of charges.
