A string of COVID-19 advisories have been issued

The Porcupine Health Unit has issued an exposure advisory on another Air Canada flight. It was from Toronto to Timmins, August 22nd. It is for flight AC8285 scheduled to leave at 2:15 p.m. Those who sat in rows eight to 12 are considered high risk and must self-isolate immediately. They are also asked to call the local public health unit. All other passengers are considered low risk and should self-monitor for symptoms for 10 days.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts are advising the public of two low-risk potential exposures to COVID-19. The first is for GOVA passengers travelling on bus Route 1 Main Line on August 21, 2021, between 8:45 and 9:30 a.m. During this timeframe, the bus travelled along Notre Dame Avenue as well as Lasalle Boulevard.
The second advisory is for a business at 1855 Lasalle Boulevard. in Greater Sudbury on August 20, 2021, between 8 and 11 p.m. are advised of a potential low-risk exposure to COVID-19.
 

A number of speeders stopped in Greater Sudbury, Manitoulin

Greater Sudbury Police and Manitoulin OPP have laid stunt driving charges this week. In the first incident, Sudbury police say a G2 driver was clocked at 146 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Meanwhile, Manitoulin OPP has impounded two vehicles. Both within an hour. In one case, The driver was travelling 101 km/h in a 40 km/h zone on Lee Valley Road in Massey.
 

Spruce Beach now flys a blue flag

Recent water sample results have come back clean from Spine and Spruce Beaches. Both beaches in Elliot Lake, Algoma Public Heath say a swimming advisory had been in place for Spruce Beach. Advisory signs will be taken down and the blue flag at Spruce Beach will be raised.
 

Three new forest fires announced for the North East

The Ministry of Natural Resources Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division has confirmed three new forest fires in the northeast region. Two are in the Hurst region. Both are located southeast of Jog Lake, one is currently under control at 0.1 of a hectare, the other is being observed at four hectares. North Bay 17, located east of Temagami River Provincial Park, is not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. The fire hazard ranges from moderate to high across the region with the exception of the far north, which is showing a low to moderate hazard on Wednesday.
 

Heat warnings issued for North Bay, Elliot Lake, Sudbury

Heat warnings are back in effect, for North Bay, Elliot Lake and Greater Sudbury. While day time high of 28 or so is expected, Environment Canada says the humidex values could make it feel like 36 today. Plenty of water is recommended, as there could be little relief from the heat and humidity overnight. Relief from the heat is likely tomorrow.
 

Fire at Landfill closes site in Timmins

A fire at the Deloro Landfill Site, in Timmins, resulted in closure yesterday.  There’s no word as to the cause, but personnel responded quickly.  The closure was to allow them to douse all the hot spots. There is hope the landfill site can open tomorrow.
 

Elliot Lake eases restrictions at Municipal Pool

Restrictions at the Elliot municipal pool have eased. Guests no longer need to pre-book when coming to Aquafit and distance swims. That said, the facility can not exceed 50 percent of building capacity. It is recommended that families pre-book.
