Two hunters found after becoming lost
Sudbury OPP has successfully completed the search for two hunters in the Onaping Lake. This is after the two left the Onaping lodge in a side-by-side to go hunting but failed to return as planned. The male was found shortly afterward, and Police now confirm the female has also been located safe and sound.
Speeding a concern once again in North Bay
North Bay city council is hearing, once again, concerns over speeding in the city. Specifically, in community neighborhoods. A one-kilometer stretch of road on McKeown Avenue, south of Ski Club Road between the intersections at O’Brien Street and Chapais Street got a mention. Especially when it comes to area school zones.
Cambrian College announces new board chair
Cambrian College’s Board of Governors has a new board Chair. Maureen McLelland has been appointed Chair for the coming term, replacing Paul Pedersen, Chief of the Greater Sudbury Police Service. McLelland is currently the Regional Vice-President Cancer Care (Ontario Health) and Vice-President Social Accountability at HSN.
$100k heading to Sault College for mechatronics program
Algoma Steel Inc., is contributing $100,000 to Sault College. It’s all in support students pursuing careers in steel and other “vital” industries through the college’s bachelor of engineering – mechatronics program. The goal is to provide funds for the purchase of new instruction equipment, to help more students gain hands-on experience.
Timmins Police looking for Seth Ennis
The Timmins Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a missing teen. Missing is 14-year-old Seth Ennis, who was last seen by family in the late evening of Sept. 29th. Seth is being described as 5’6 tall, 130lbs, Brown straight hair, Brown eyes. Seth Ennis was last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, black and white shoes, and a black hat with a red symbol on the front.
Algoma U looking at record enrolment numbers
Algoma University says they’re now anticipating record enrolments for this year. Based on preliminary data, the post-secondary institution is seeing a 26.3 percent increase in first-year students entering from Ontario secondary schools, a number that the school reports is highest in the province.
