North Bay City Council firms up COVID-19 policy
North Bay City Council has given the go-ahead to have staff develop a workplace COVID-19 vaccination and testing policy. Council was unanimous in their support to mandate all city employees provide proof of full vaccination status effective November 29. Those employees with proof of exemptions based on religious or health reasons must also provide proof of a negative COVID test/Rapid Antigen Testing at regular intervals not to exceed 72 hours.
Soo Police budget going up
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s budget is going up. At just over $31 million dollars for 2022, that’s almost a 5 per cent increase over this year. This will cover Salaries, Vehicle purchases and leases, Training and travel along with Capital equipment spending.
HSN puts up the help wanted sign – nurses, please
HSN continues their efforts to attract more health care workers. Currently, there are more than 30 openings for registered nurses and registered practical nurses, among various other listings for a wide selection of hospital workers. Health Sciences North continues to work at 100% capacity to tackle surgery backlog while trying to attract more nurses
Stunt driver busted in Greater Sudbury
A 23-year-old driver from Christian Island has been charged with stunt driving. This is after being caught, allegedly, going 177 km/h on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury on October 3. The driver was pulled over by the West Nipissing OPP. He will be in court in January.
Meanwhile, an alleged drug-impaired driver is off the road, thanks to an off-duty police officer. It happened over the weekend when North Bay Police Service Constable Merv Shantz saw a man who appeared to be intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle and called for backup. He did pull the vehicle over and did begin the process of arresting the accused. Uniforms arrived shortly thereafter, arrested and charged the accused.
New board chair is sworn in at Ont North East Board
District School Board Ontario North East has a new trustee. Larry Wiwchar was sworn in as a Trustee at this week’s meeting and will represent Timiskaming Shores, Temagami, Elk Lake and area. This follows Val Fuller’s retirement on Aug. 31, 2021.
