CN Rail crossing up and running following washout

CN Rail is up and running heading south out of Capreol following a washout. It affected part of the rail roadbed. While it’s not entirely clear how the washout occurred, it did not appear to cause any damage to CN trains or cause any injury. The washout occurred near an area known as Greens Lake Rapids. As a result, a section of track had been replaced.
 

NB Police make a $348k drug bust

The North Bay Police claim has made one of the largest narcotics busts in recent memory. It happened just ahead of the weekend when Police seized over $348,000 in illicit drugs. It was all part of a larger investigation into suspected trafficking. The suspect was arrested at a residence on Bloem Street. The male in his 30’s is facing an arm’s length of charges.
 

Don’t drive on the shoulder – Timmins Police

Timmins Police Service is issuing a reminder to drivers about driving on the shoulder of the road. This is following a number of complaints regarding the unsafe use of the right shoulder to accommodate the passing of vehicles stopped or slowing to complete a left turn off of a highway. It’s happening on Hwy 101 West at the intersections of Jaguar Road, Kamiskotia Road, and Government Road South. Drivers who do this should consider themselves warned.
 

Legato Stockholder vote in favor of a merger with Algoma Steel

Legato stockholders have voted in favor of proceeding with a merger deal to acquire Algoma Steel. According to a news release, 74 percent of holders of Legato common stock voted at a special meeting and voted 92 percent in favor of the merger. The deal, announced last May, is expected to be finalized this week.
 

Sudbury City Council hoping to mitigate tax levy increase

Sudbury city council is looking at the 2022 budget, once again, this week. In June, the city’s finance and administration committee requested that city staff prepare a draft budget that includes a tax levy increase no greater than three percent. Right now the draft budget is at 3.4 percent. Staff will have to reduce the budget by more than a million dollars to meet the three percent guideline before November.
 

North Bay motorists warned of a road closure

Motorists in North Bay are being warned of a closure. It’s for Wickstead Avenue. The roadway will be closed between Mountainview Drive and Sage Road for approximately 11 days starting today. It’s to allow for the replacement roadside curbs. The City of North Bay thanks residents for their patience while this work is completed.
 

Elliot Lake Looking into Electronics dump bin

Elliot Lake’s Public Services Committee is looking at adding a recycling bin for electronics waste at the city’s landfill. It would involve the city signing an agreement with the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA), giving the company exclusive rights at the dump for the collection and recycling of electronic waste. Currently, electronic waste and recycling in Elliot Lake are being provided by a private business owner.
