North Bay awards contract for PFAS removal

North Bay city council has awarded a $5-million contract for engineering consulting services in the airport Hill area. This is an issue is polyfluoroalkylated substances – or PFAS. The city’s share of the contract is three percent, or $150,000, with the Department of National Defence paying for most of the costs. An estimated $20 million worth of work will be completed over the next six years, with the federal government, through DND, providing about $19.4 million to the cleanup. Testing has been ongoing since 2017 on testing and monitoring for PFAS in Trout Lake – the city’s freshwater supply – Lees Creek and residential wells on Airport Hill.
