Changes likely for Snow Removal this winter

Just in time before the snow flies – the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that the implementation of snow removal policies is not protected from civil liability. This means, in essence – people can now sue cities over snow removal or the lack thereof when it causes injury. In one instance, a court dealt with a B.C. woman who injured her leg while crawling over a snowbank to get to the sidewalk. Evidently, the city had failed to clear a path from the street parking spaces to the sidewalk. As a result, residents are likely to see snow clearing policies for downtown areas – drastically change for this winter.
