A number of schools move to online learning

A New Liskeard school is moving online. This is after more than half its students were apparently exposed to COVID-19. Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivieres (CSCDGR) and the Timiskaming Health Unit have released a letter to Ecole catholique St-Michel families. It indicates that due to current COVID-19 numbers, they have started virtual learning. It also indicates remote learning will continue until the Christmas break. The board says there is also a lack of supply staff resulting in operational safety issues. The board does note that the school is safe for learning and the in-school spread is minimal.
Meanwhile, two Algoma District School Board sites in Blind River are moving to online learning. This is after one person at one of the schools tested positive for the Omicron variant. Additionally, Algoma Public Health declared an outbreak at Pinewood Public School on Monday. Four people at the Queen Street East school tested positive for COVID-19.
