A winter storm is brewing, expected to impact the province beginning Saturday morning. Parts of northeastern Ontario could receive 15 to 20 cm of snow by Sunday morning. That said, some areas may also receive ice pellets mixed in with the snow, which would reduce the total snowfall.

The latest numbers say volunteer firefighters working out of Greater Sudbury’s fire halls have dropped over the past decade. Down 38.6 percent, from 339 to 208.

The city of North Bay has announced the start of pothole season, asking residents to call public works if they’d like a large or problematic one filled in their area.

Timmins Snowmobile trails remain open thanks to the latest dump of snow. The trail association governing the system from Timmins to Timiskaming Shores, including Iroquois Falls and Gogama are hoping for a late season.

A bobcat has been spotted at a Sault Ste Marie residence, located in the east end. Animal experts say it’s mating season, and there was no immediate concern for safety.

Greater Sudbury is considering updating its snowmobile bylaw. The goal is to allow the vehicles to cross sections of Bancroft Drive and Moonlight Beach Road while the sledding season is chased out by warming temperatures.

West Nipissing’s Fire chief of Emergency Services is asking the municipal council for permission to hire a consultant. The goal is to help put together a Community Risk Assessment and Fire Master Plan.

Under-18 Ringette in Northern Ontario is making a stop in Timmins. The regional tournament is scheduled for next weekend with 45 teams participating.

Emergency crews in Sudbury were called to the scene of an active fire in the community of Chelmsford. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen on Hazel street. There is no word as to the cause nor injuries.

Timmins city council is considering a diving into cost saving for young families. Offering weekly sponsored swims and increasing the age of those who always swim for free to three years old and under.
