Callander’s pickleball club is growing in popularity. Town council has already granted lines to for the courts, and the sport is so popular in Callander that the club is outgrowing their space at the Community Centre.

A byelection has been forced after several councilor seats have been declared vacant.

The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge Administration is alerting travelers of a scam. Text messages attempting to scam toll road and bridge users by telling them that money is owning. It’s all a fraud, and uses can simply delete.

The City of Elliot Lake is undertaking a study of its transit network, with the goal of improving the access to quality transit services. They are looking for public input.

Laurentian to host National Building Reconciliation Forum in June. The schools says, in short, they’re doing some amazing work, and it should be shared.

The provincial government announced it is investing an additional $50,000 towards the Business Centre, Nipissing Parry Sound.. on top of its base funding allocation. $159,500 for the 2024 year, for a total allocation of just over $209k ($209,500)

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is looking for community input on some design concepts for the waterfront. It is the latest step in the city’s quest to produce a waterfront design plan aimed at transforming it into what they call a world-class destination.

Here at home in Northern Ontario… a Timmins resort is offering a brand new experience. Guests at Cedar Meadows Resort can now spend the night sleeping under the stars while getting up close and personal with the resident wolf pack. The wolves are separated from the public by glass walls, and the whole idea has the many howling with excitement.

The first forest fire of the season in Sudbury area is already out.. Sudbury 1 confirmed just ahead of the weekend, but called out shortly after. Fire officials say there have been five new wildland fires confirmed in northeastern Ontario in recent days, with all but one of those fires already out.

Speaking of… Ontario says they will increase health coverage for wildland firefighters. Wildland firefighters will receive same WSIB coverage as municipal firefighters in light of some health concersn and PTSD.

First steps have been taken to repair Callander’s Swale Street. Council has appointed an engineer for the design and draft of the $1.45M project.

In Timmins… the 2024 tax rates are up for approval. Thus far all requested parties with the exception of the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) and Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (CDSSAB) have lowered their budget to be in line with the city’s increase.

In Elliot Lake, public access to the vicinity of the Mining Monument is temporarily closed until maintenance on the monument structure is complete.
