North Bay Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene of a massive fire at Stradwicks Carpet One on Brule Street last night. The call came in around 9:50. Witnesses say, the building was engulfed in flames with the warehouse portion destroyed. NBFES confirmed there were no injuries related to the blaze. Franklin Street is closed in both directions.

Sudbury Catholic District School Board has elected a new president – Michael Bellmore. He has been a trustee with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board for 17 years, including nine years as chair and four years as vice-chair.

The next step in seeing a new community and recreation centre built in North Bay has been approved by council. Mississauga’s EllisDon Corporation has been awarded a $2.6 million project development services contract.

A chicken farmer near Mattawa made quite the find just ahead of the weekend, when she discovered one of her hens laid an egg close to three times the size of an average large chicken egg. The egg weighed 152 grams. To put that into perspective, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said a normal large egg weighs around 56 grams. And when she cracked – a second egg… along with its yoke. While it’s not unheard of to have two yokes, something like this, is quite egg-strodinary.
