The Sudbury health says a visible bloom of blue-green algae has been observed in Ramsey Lake. And, the health unit has further reported that a similar occurrence of a visible bloom of blue-green algae has been seen in Whitewater Lake in Azilda. For the time being, residents are encouraged not to drink the water or use it for personal use.

East Parry Sound Community Support Services is calling on drivers from South River, Sundridge, Powassan and North Bay to consider being a volunteer to take its clients to medical appointments. While you’d have to drive south first, appointments are in North Bay, Sudbury, Toronto, Orillia, Barrie, and Huntsville.

The testing and monitoring of Greater Sudbury’s drinking water networks will begin today in Chelmsford, Azilda, Levack, and Dowling. As part of this study, hydrant flow tests will be performed, which may result in brief periods of reduced water pressure and discoloured water in areas closest to testing locations.

The annual Trades Day of Caring is coming up in October in Sault Ste Marie. The initiative, which Sault College and United Way put together, connects Sault College trades students with local seniors who require assistance helping with winterizing tasks ahead of the cold weather.

Rainbow District School Board and the federation representing permanent elementary teachers and occasional teachers in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island have new agreements at the local level. It will apply to over 650 permanent teachers and 225 occasional teachers in its elementary schools. The new deals are in effect from Sept. 1, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2026.

One-way streets in downtown Sturgeon Falls is a move in the wrong direction. That’s according to West Nipissing council who submitted a petition to council requesting to turn Main and King Streets into one-way streets with diagonal parking along one side of the street.

While the numbers for this year are still being built… stats show the City of Timmins experienced its “best year probably ever,” in terms of building permit activity in 2023. The figures are inflated slightly by the permit issued for construction of the $100 million-plus Golden Manor Redevelopment Project.
