The Labour Market Group says Nipissing saw a significant increase in job postings, year-over-year, for September of this year. Their jobs report shows 591 postings that month. Compared to the same month last year, the figure is up by more than 34%. However, it’s down slightly (2.2%) month-over-month.

The Timmins Police Service is thanking the public for their assistance as a previously missing teen, Amy-Lee Spalding-Nelson, has been located safe and sound.

Sault College has nominated two of its alumni for Premier’s Awards through Colleges Ontario. Its founder and principal Mokwateh, JP Gladu, has been nominated in the Business category while Special Olympic medalist Carter Simpson has been nominated in the Health Sciences category.

The Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine has expanded its teddy bear program. Cochrane District EMS is stocking its 22 ambulances across the district with bears. The expansion is using seven hundred stuffies, to begin with.

Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe says Service Canada has implemented several measures to support those who rely on the delivery of cheques via Canada Post. Canada Post has agreed to deliver physical cheques once a month for the Canada Pension Plan; the CPP disability benefit; Old-Age Security; the Canada Child Benefit and others.

Meanwhile, over $262 million from Ottawa is helping build 691 new homes in northern and Indigenous communities in Ontario. Two projects, worth a total of $12.5 million involving Nipissing First Nation’s Elder’s Lodge. One is for ten units in Duchesnay and another ten in Garden Village.

Ontario is spending more money to boost mining exploration in the North. Mines Minister George Pirie says Ontario is investing $13 million through the Ontario Junior Exploration Program (OJEP) to help 84 junior mining companies finance early exploration projects.

The Off The Street Emergency Shelter in downtown Sudbury will be able to extend its hours through the winter. This is thanks to $110,445 in additional funding from the City of Greater Sudbury.

A “fully automated public washroom” has been constructed in Callander. The $320,000 facility near boat docks is located on Lansdowne Street West, and available for locals and those passing though.

Sault Ste Marie Police… say a previously missing woman, Robin Munroe has been located safely and sound.
