The city of Sault Ste Marie, shut down today all due to the snow. City buses are not running and schools are closed. The city has declared a significant weather event and many residents are simply staying home. A number of business, the YMCA and even Doctor’s offices are closed today. Drivers are encouraged to take their time, and to operate patience.

The city of Greater Sudbury says this coming Monday the declaration will be made, that December is Christian Heritage Month for the city. It will begin at 10am and include remarks made by the Mayor. The public is welcomed to attend. The city will join other municipalities who have made a similar declaration.

Callander’s much-awaited new public washroom installed near the municipal dock on Lansdowne Street… will come with a cost when it comes to shower usage. This follows a town council decision. $50 per year, or $5 per visit.

More cash from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will go toward learning in Timmins. The Timmins learning centre which helps adults and Children alike has received grants totaling just over $135k ($135,100)

The renaming of the Elliot Lake arena is now in the books. After a unanimous vote at city council, Elliot Lake will soon have a new name on the side of its arena known as the Rogers Arena.

The winter parking ban for Greater Sudbury is in effect as of Sunday. It means overnight parking on city streets etc. will not be permitted until the end of March to make room for city snow plows.

North Bay OPP are putting out a reminder to drivers that they must stop for R.I.D.E. stops. While some may be well meaning, attempting to avoid a delay, those who try to skip the process will only get pulled over.

Sault Ste. Marie transit nothing there are delays this week when it comes to para transit. This is all due to difficulties with unplowed parking lots. They remind the public they are coming, and to be patient.

Greater Sudbury Firefighters say they were called to Ecole Felix-Ricard just before lunch on Wednesday of this week after a chemical smell was detected at the school. Students and staff were evacuated off-site while the fire department aired out the school. No injuries were reported.

The Near North District School Board says they will offer secondary school students Indigenous language courses. The option is to be open to Ontario students and done virtually next year.

A new fee is being added to the 2025 Timmins water and wastewater rates. Council says a 5.49 percent increase was approved. A one percent levy was added for the city to raise money for capital projects.

Searchmont Resort in Sault Ste Marie is hoping for a Saturday opening. The popular ski and snowboard resort has added the triple-triple, a new three-day, three-night season pass for this year.
