Queen’s Park has announced $7.3M for projects across Greater Sudbury. It was announced during a visit to the Nickel City this week by Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford highlighting a dozen economic initiatives in the city.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says an added 11.5 cm of snow since its last survey has brought area snow depth to the normal range. All three sites, in North Bay, Corbeil and Chisholm, were below normal earlier this month.

Speaking of snow…. Snowmobilers are all happy with what’s fallen the past week. That said…the president of the trail association that stretches from Timiskaming Shores to Iroquois Falls says more freezing is still needed to firm up a few marshy areas.

The French River Fire Department has pulled a puppy to safety following a call related to a building fire this morning. As a result, a portion of highway 64 was closed and has since reopened. There were no injuries and the fire was extinguished.

The City of North Bay officially launched its Centennial Year this week with a special flag-raising ceremony, marking 2025 as the 100th anniversary of its incorporation.

Timmins City Hall is cracking down on those who rent out temporary accommodations or B&Bs. It’s to ensure that the owners of those properties are getting a proper licence and meeting all the criteria.

Meanwhile, plans for the housing development on Collegiate Hill in Sault Ste Marie was unveiled to the public this week. Two nine-storey apartment buildings with a combined 232 units will be constructed at the corner of MacDonald and Gladstone if approved by the city.
