Maintenance work at the Falconbridge booster station may cause low water pressure or discolored water for area residents and businesses today. The work will occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Northgate Shopping Centre officials say conditions inside the Northgate Shopping Centre parking garage are improving. The mall says they will continue to evaluate parking capacity, and will consider opening the upper levels of the parking garage as needed.
Meanwhile, it’s up, up, up, for the Timmins Stratospheric Balloon Base (TSBB) at the Timmins Victor M. Power Airport. They’re receiving more federal funding as a new permanent antenna structure will be installed in the near future.
Sault Ste. Marie Police are looking for a 12-year-old who has been reported missing. Jaydin Tasse was last seen at around 3 p.m. on Monday, January 20 in the 700 block of Pine Street. Jaydin is described as approximately 4’10” with a slender build, blue eyes, and dark blond medium-length hair.

The driver of a school bus involved in a crash yesterday was seriously injured but injuries to students were thankfully not as severe. That’s from Sudbury OPP following an accident yesterday on Highway 69. Seven students were taken to hospital, 5 as a precaution. The Sudbury Student Services Consortium, says 12 students were on board at the time.
The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is looking for public feedback on new floodplain mapping. They’ve partnered with the province, the City of North Bay and the Municipality of Callander on the updated mapping with public consultation running until February 20th.
A deal could be ratified as early as June between the Ontario government and one of several First Nations in an area south of Sudbury… where the four-laning of Highway 69 needs to be finished. Negotiations have been ongoing with the province since 2008.
With help from senior levels of Government, the Near North District School Board will be investing more than $8.2 million into its schools. The projects are divided into two sectors — school condition improvement projects worth more than $4.9 million and school renewal projects totaling $3.3 million.
Gold production is expected to double this year at the new Côté Gold Mine, outside Gogama. IAMGOLD said it sees “positive momentum” heading into 2025 at its open-pit mine located halfway between Sudbury and Timmins.
In Sault Ste Marie, three cats were taken in by the Humane Society after they were displaced by a house fire yesterday afternoon. They responded to the 100 block of Pleasant Drive shortly before 2 p.m. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze… no injuries were reported.
