An early morning blaze on Highway 17, on Sunday morning, near Sturgeon Falls has caused 700k in Damage. It happened at a business. Officials believe the fire started near the back of the building. Three stations and 20 members fought the blaze. There were no injuries.

Construction of a new teaching space at the Caruso Club in Greater Sudbury will soon be underway. Worth $2 million dollars, it’s all to strengthen Italian culture and language.

Timmins 2025 budget could be given the go-ahead this week. A proposed net levy increase is 3.72 per cent, which is a slight drop from the 3.79 per cent initially pitched in November is up for discussion tonight.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is getting an extra pair of hands in the building of construction of 280 homes over the next three years. Sault MP Terry Sheehan announced $8.6 million in funding from the Housing Accelerator Fund.

The Federal Government is chipping in to help accelerate housing in Greater Sudbury. $16M to help with things like financial incentives to help get approximately 2,000 affordable housing units constructed.

Meanwhile the province says the TDHA is getting roughly $12-million in funding. George Pirie says the money will be divided between support services, one-time funding to ease “in-year” budget pressures and funding for alternative level of care beds for people awaiting placement in long term care facilities.

Memorial Gardens in North Bay has a new name… so to speak. A new sponsorship agreement means that the facility will be known as Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens. The agreement is good for $485,000 over five years. The money will be divided evenly between the City and the Battalion hockey team.

The Province of Ontario says Homelessness and Recovery Treatment hub will be created in Sault Ste. Marie. MPP Ross Romano made the announcement on the HART update yesterday afternoon with Mayor Matthew Shoemaker at the CMHA.

The Workers with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at CN Rail have voted in favour of a strike. 750 workers total, from the signal and communications dept are being affected including 70 in Sudbury. CN says they have a contingency place.

Two new drones will patrol North Bay skies during investigations and search and rescue efforts. Police say having them on board marks a significant advantage in the day-to-day work as police. This expands the fleet to seven.

Sault Ste. Marie’s New Democrats will choose between a city councilor and a founding member of ACCANO (African Caribbean Canadian Association of Northern Ontario) as their candidate in the upcoming provincial election. The move is expected Thursday.

The Manitoulin OPP are reminding the public to stay off closed Snowmobile trails. This is after they received a call for a pickup truck that drove onto a closed OFSC-maintained trail, causing significant damage. The vehicle was abandoned on the trail after it became stuck.
