Thankfully, no injuries were reported after the roof of the Tarentorus Sports Club in Sault Ste. Marie collapsed yesterday at around 12:30 p.m. Sault firefighters were on the scene. There is no confirmed reason for the collapse.

Sudbury city council is investigating the potential for private operation of Lively Ski Hill despite filing a request for expression of interest to operate. Last year, the Lively Ski Hill’s low user rates and cost recovery drew the council’s attention, prompting the ongoing review, which is anticipated to conclude with a final decision by June.

Timmins snowplows are still out clearing snow. The City of Timmins has issued a notice about a city-wide snow plowing operation. It starts at midnight on Thursday, March 6.A winter parking ban is in effect, parking is prohibited on streets from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

In Greater Sudbury, the College Street underpass has reopened. The underpass was closed for part of the afternoon yesterday, after it became flooded.

What’s being called an innovative solution to addressing affordable housing needs in North Bay has opened. The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) and Canadore College are partnering on a cohabitation tenancy building in the 600 block of Commercial Street.

The Historic Empire building in Timmins is up for sale. It’s on the market for $6M. Ravaged by fire nearly a year ago, the building had previously received nearly $1.1 million in affordable housing funding from local social services.

Sudbury City Crews continue to deal with frozen conditions after rain brought flooding to several streets yesterday. And now unblock storm drains continue to be clogged with ice. Residents are drivers are asked to give crews room to work.

Meanwhile, a Watershed Conditions Statement in regards to Water Safety has been issued for the North Bay – Mattawa watershed. The Conservation Authority says “Water levels in the Mattawa area are near normal for this time of year, however, forecasted rain, mild temperatures, and resulting snowmelt will increase flows on local rivers and streams.

With the winter storm weather that started Tuesday evening in Timmins, Collège Boréal campuses in Timmins, Hearst and Kapuskasing are closed today. There are reduced activities and access to the Northern College campuses in Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Haileybury.

Transit was up and running once again in Sault Ste Marie today. Due to icy weather conditions, all city transit service in Sault Ste. Marie has been cancelled for much of the evening yesterday.

The Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands will be getting a brand new fire pumper truck, hopefully by the end of the summer. While a new pumper truck was in the budget, it wasn’t anticipated that a purchase could happen immediately.
