
College Boreal in Sudbury will receive just north of $386k ($386,174) from the federal government to support its work in strengthening the agri-food industry in Northern Ontario. Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe was the one announced the funding on behalf of Patty Hajdu, the minister of Indigenous Services and FedNor.
In North Bay, the annual ice removal on Parks Creek where it crosses Lakeshore Drive is set to begin Monday. The public and snowmobilers are being urged to stay off the creek and away from the mouth of the creek at Lake Nipissing.

In Sault Ste Marie, Airport passenger traffic fell in February compared to last year. Passenger levels have in a one-year comparison from February 2024 to February 2025, dropped by 5.2%.
Sudbury city staff say the idea of offering students free access to transit buses would have long-term benefits, but would strain the system and lead to increased costs, among other challenges. In short, staff were asked to look at the idea, which has been implemented in other cities as a way to supplement school buses and foster long-term use of the transit system.
A pitch to pinch pennies in Mattawa is getting some pushback. To save money, Mattawa’s Deputy Mayor Mathew Gardiner has suggested the town’s council be trimmed down from seven to five members. It would happen in the next municipal election, which comes in the fall of 2026. That said, council was not on board.
Timmins city’s rural landfills are, apparently, nearing capacity and residents are being asked for feedback on rural curbside waste collection. Two public sessions are planned on the potential changes. An online survey will also be available from March 21-April 11.

Elliot Lake Council has approved a $5-million ‘safeguard’ allowing a by-law to borrow temporarily up to $5 million. This decision was made this week following the debate of a staff recommendation and unanimous note.

Come the month of June, Armed Forces Day celebrations will be back in North Bay. City Council voted this week to move ahead on the 13th annual in-person event Demonstrations by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Canadian Armed Forces SkyHawks Parachute Demonstration Team and the CF-18 Tactical Demonstration Team are all expected to show up.
The city of Temiskaming Shores is shopping for a contract for this year’s Canada Day. It’s all for the Fireworks displays. There is no word on how many party’s have been contact ahead of the July 1st to-do.
The bridge that crosses the Mississagi River south of Highway 17 just east of Iron Bridge is being reopened with a new load restriction in effect, the Municipality of Huron Shores says. An engineering report confirmed that the bridge can safely accommodate vehicles up to 6 metric tonnes under controlled conditions.
