The Ford government’s decision to remove the eight per cent provincial sales tax for first-time home buyers is getting the thumbs up, but it should go further according to more. Sudbury home builders say it should apply to all new homes, not just ones worth $1 million or less.

A new provincial regulation has set some of Ontario’s fire services on a collision course of sorts. By July 1, 2026, every firefighter in the province, including those serving in volunteer departments, must be fully certified to the National Fire Protection Association Level 1 and Level 2 standards or risk being unable to perform their duties. That said, while Manitoulin Island municipal fire services embrace new provincial regulations, they are already asking for more time.

The Sault Surge Aquatic Team is making waves after hosting the first North Eastern Ontario swimming meet of the season this past weekend. Almost 250 athletes representing 10 clubs attended the competition. Eighty-nine local athletes represented the local Sault Surge Aquatic Team starting the season off successfully with 353 new personal best times and winning 49 individual events.
