The Sudbury Chamber is accepting nominations for the 29th Annual Business Excellence Awards, which will be held on May 28th next year.

North Bay Council has discussed how and where future development should take place and how to ensure the protection of the City’s drinking water source, Trout Lake. This included a special Community Services Committee meeting last week.

Traffic at the International Bridge has dropped for the ninth straight month, down by nearly a quarter through 2025 so far. In October, there were just over 79,800 (79,852) one-way crossings at the border – a 23-per-cent decrease compared to October 2024.

The city of Timmins is getting another $1.2 million increase from the province’s main general grant for municipalities. In 2026, includes over $13 million through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF), which is over $1.2 million more than the $11.8 million received this year.

A Zoom session has been planned for Huron Shores community input. The Community Development Advisory Committee meeting is taking place on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Removing PST for first-time home buyers on new homes up to $1 million is a step toward housing affordability. That’s according to the Sudbury & District Home Builders’ Association. The move will save first-time new home buyers with up to $80,000 in PST relief, which increases to $130,000 when combined with the proposed federal rebate.

The City of Greater Sudbury has funded a new 24-hour warming centre for the fall and winter season. Located at Energy Court, and operated by The Go Give Project and it is now officially opened for the season.

Police in North Bay say they have charged a young person in connection with an incident Oct. 31 in which three students were almost struck by a vehicle. The incident was caught on video through the back parking lot of St. Joseph’s Scollard Hall.

Meanwhile, thirty closed-circuit television cameras are now operational at 28 intersections in Sault Ste. Marie. The cameras are the result of an initiative two years in the making, made possible by equal funding of $150,000 from the province and city police.

A Town hall in Elliot Lake to explore tax structure and service demands is on it’s way. A chance to voice opinions and learn more about their city’s financial hosted by the municipal treasurer will take place at city hall on Hillside Dr. N., at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Over 800 Saultites were without power this morning. PUC’s outage map showed 859 customers are experiencing an outage in the Boundary Road area between Trunk Road and Bennett Boulevard.
The utility does not know the cause yet.

A northern Ontario polar habitat benefited from an award-winning pumpkin out of Aidie Creek Gardens. The 1,400-pound pumpkin was enjoyed by Henry the bear much to the delight of staff.
