The city of Sudbury is exploring the possibility of expanding its gateway speed limit pilot program to residential neighbourhoods city-wide. Gateway speed limits include signs alerting motorists of the speed limit as they enter and exit an affected area.

Mattawa wants public input on new strategic plan. The hope is to hear from residents up until and including a public meeting on the 24th of this month. The new plan outlines the town’s path until 2030.

Iroquois Falls council says their meetings will start 30 minutes earlier beginning next year. At its meeting this week, council agreed to shift its regular meeting start time from 6:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. starting in 2026.

Students at Northern College have team up for a good cause. Police foundations, paramedic, and firefighter students at Northern College collected 1,273 teddy bears that will go to children in high-stress situations. It’s all through the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine’s teddy bear program.

The federal budget carries a $78-billion deficit this year, and Sault Ste. Marie-Algoma MP Terry Sheehan is coming to its defence. He says the investments it lays out for Canadian industries are “absolutely critical” for the country moving forward.

The city has hired from within a new director of Planning Services, the interim manager of Strategic and Environmental Planning Melissa Riou. She will begin her new role on Dec. 1, and will oversee development approvals, geographic information systems and strategic and environmental planning.

Meanwhile, the NNDSB has a familiar face at the helm. Jay Aspin and Bill Steer were elected to serve as the Near North District School Board’s chair and vice chair. They were elected during the board’s meeting yesterday.

A fire in a vacant building was quickly knocked down yesterday. The call came in just before 3 p.m. yesterday. The structure fire was called in on Spruce Street South between Kimberley and Dale. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Sault Police are using in-cruiser cameras to find expired licence plates. Evidently, they can catch expired tags leading to additional stops and more resolutions.

A water shut off took place in Elliot Lake today, all to deal with a watermain break. The notice went out for several addresses on Benner Rd. Effected residents were notified.

A new physician is joining the Gore Bay medical clinic on Manitoulin Island. Dr. Wendy Davie and her family have been living out of country and are happy to in the area.
