The Federal Government has announced just over $149k ($149,364) through FedNor to support the hiring of interns for three local organizations. Among them, the Downtown Sudbury BIA is receiving $57,500 to hire a youth intern for 18 months.

Bonfield council has approved a pay increase for mayor and councilors. It will take effect for the next term of council, from 2027 to 2030. Beginning January 1, 2027, when the new council is inaugurated, the salary increase will include $16,132 for its mayor.

Just keep digging… a harsh reality for some in Northern Ontario. In Timmins, digging out from snowstorm could take a month, or longer, says the CAO TIMMINS – It’s been at least a decade since Timmins has had this much snow to start the year.

Heads up to pet owners, the deadline is approaching for reduced-rate pet tags in Elliot Lake. Residents are encouraged to purchase before Jan. 15th for special reduced rates. Cat and Dog Tags are available for purchase at City Hall or online.

A 24-hour closure of the emergency department at the Richards Landing-Matthews Site on St. Joseph Island has been averted. It was originally set to 8 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 8 to 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 due to physician shortages, but that is no more.

While there’s milder temperatures currently, Sudbury outreach workers say cold continues to put the vulnerable at risk. There were 15 cold weather alerts in December alone, the most in 9 years.

Snow removal started this week in downtown North Bay, beginning with Main Street West. The city says crews are clearing one block at a time, and once Main Street is complete, work will move to Algonquin.

While the area digs out from the biggest winter storm in 40 years, another is on the way. A special weather statement says now until tomorrow could see 10-20 mm of rain, as well as 5 to 15 cm of snow.

Anyone want a bus? The Sault College Cougars bus is for sale. $80k is is the asking price for the bus that has just over 1 million (1,075,332 km) km on it and the mileage will continue to climb until it sells since it’s still in service.

The Municipality of Huron Shores advises residents and motorists that work on the Potamac Bridge is getting going. Jan. 12 is the start date. During this period, drivers are asked to give crews room to work.

The city is has put out a Request for Tender to qualified Contractors to complete the rehabilitation of Golf Course Road Bridge. It is on Golf Course Road. Full details including specs are on the city website.
