Changes made last year to Ontario’s used tire collection program have lead to a huge stockpile of tires at several yards, including one in in Azilda. The discussion as to what’s next is on.. as before then 85 per cent of tires were collected by weight and recycled.

North Bay councilor Lana Mitchell has been formally elected Chair of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. Mitchell was elected during a Board meeting held this week. Mitchell had been serving as Interim Chair since October.

With all the school bus cancellations, Northeastern Catholic District School Board director of education Tricia Weltz says schools do remain open. In short, she says school is on and classes are taking place. If it is possible, students should be in class.

The North Shore Health Network is getting ready for a temporary closure of the Emergency Department at its Thessalon site because of doctor shortages. All due to a physician shortage, it takes place starting this morning at 8… and goes for 24 hours.

Evidently in addition, to the Algoma Public Health, Group Health Centre and Sault Area Hospital, there’s a fourth location where NOSMU could set up when it opens here in 2027.  That said, Mayor Matthew Shoemaker will not say where it could end up.

The city of Temiskaming shores says the City Landfill has reopened and is now operating as normal.  This follows a temporary closure. They would like to thank you to residents for their patience and while City staff completed the required work.

Health Sciences North has a new vice-president. Longtime staff member Dr. Daniel Molke has been appointed to the position. Molke brings more than 20 years of experience in the province’s health-care system, including 14 years at Health Sciences North.

The North Bay Police Service is reminding the community to exercise caution around snow banks this winter. Heavy snowfall and plowing can create hazards for drivers, pedestrians, and children playing outside. Residents should also avoid walking on roadways.

A new primary care teaching clinic is slated for Timmins. The province has announced it’s giving up to $500,000 each for 16 new teaching clinics that will run in partnership with medical schools. In Timmins, the clinic will be running through NOSM University.

Sault College Employment Services is reminding employers there is still space available for the annual career fair. It takes place February 4th from 1 to 5 p.m. on campus. The event brings together students and community job seekers with local employers.

The city says sizable improvements are now available in the recycling program in Huron Shores. Glass bottles and jars will be accepted in the recycling program! Already in full swing through Circular Materials Ontario, to goal is to make recycling easier.

In Temiskaming Shores, a request for tender is out for the engineering services to document the City’s Biennial Structure Inspections of bridges and large diameter culverts. It’s all to continuing a long-term capital budget program for good maintenance.
