Classes at Laurentian could resume next week, after Family Day.  The University says it needs time to convene senate and plan the semester.

The West Jet website has stated it is offering new summer destinations, which include North Bay and Sault Ste Marie. They say they’re excited to offer Canadians more destinations starting in June.

The McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins has received $15,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and $6,000 from the Ministry of Sport for the U18 Canadian Curling Championships.

Another 24-hour closure of the emergency department in Thessalon is planned for this week. The North Shore Health Network says the emergency room will be closed from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11 due to physician shortages.

The Ford government has declared a new high-voltage transmission line between Sudbury and Barrie a priority project, fast-tracking construction to meet soaring electricity demand. They add that Hydro One will develop and build the new Sudbury–Barrie line, which is expected to be operational by 2032.

The North Bay Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Pierre, a 62-year-old male who has been reported missing. Police say Pierre was last seen on January 30, 2026, in the 200 block of Mulligan Street. He was wearing a Harley Davidson T-Shirt, Blue Jeans, a blue ball cap, and brown jacket.

Timmins Public works crews have removed over 16,000 truckloads of snow from city streets and sidewalks since the snowstorm on Dec. 28 and 29, and crews are expected to finish the cleanup from that storm early next week. Crews have removed 21,000 loads of snow, 5,000 of those in December.

The Soo Pickleball Club is looking for volunteers for the Bon Pickle Soo tournaments. They are happening Saturday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Tech gym. The desire is to have someone greet fans and sell Bon Soo buttons. More information about the tournaments is available at soopickleball.com

The Elliot Lake Winterfest Drone Show is going ahead after all… and has officially been re-scheduled to be held tonight. The show will be taking place in the original location, 151 Ontario Ave. downtown. They’re hoping for a fantastic show and anyone looking for information can contact the city directly.

A new Pet Rescue Operation is in place in the Temiskaming Shores region. Known as Paws Across Temiskaming, they are a volunteer-run organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need.  Foster applications can be found on the group’s Facebook Page and their website.
