City council has unanimous city council approved $237,500 in municipal support to see an old school transformed into an eight-unit live-in treatment centre for youth. The funds are largely derived from a $16-million federal Housing Accelerator Program grant the city received last year.

Voting is now open in West Nipissing to name the municipality’s snowplows and Zambonis. Three plows and two Zambonis are waiting to be named, and the public is invited to cast their votes on the municipality’s website. Once results are in, staff will apply the chosen names to the machines.

In a significant step towards improving public safety, the City of Elliot Lake has started the installation of a new closed circuit television surveillance in its downtown area. The 16 high-resolution cameras are strategically placed in key spots around downtown, with the goal of deterring crime.

With Ontario Heritage Week next week, the city of Timmins has officially recognized the week noting that while the city remains focused on growth, it will take time to recognize the city’s foundation and acknowledging the work that built it is important. Ontario heritage week runs from February 16-22.

The numbers are in and air passenger levels dropped nine per cent last month compared to January of 2025. This is according to a release from Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. While winter numbers continue downward, they add its likely all due to bad weather and numbers should improve.

The city of Temiskaming Shores says they’re in search of an accounting clerk. The post is for 35 hours per week, with the department of corporate Services. Those who are interested should email the city directly; with the understanding there is a closing date on the position of February 23rd.
