Ice, Ice… and more Ice

It’s going to be a battle with the ice scraper for many heading out the door the morning…. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement telling of what some have already experienced. Freezing Rain. A series of weather systems will track northeast across Lake Huron and Georgian Bay… it is expected to ease up sometime tomorrow.
 

Mulroney in Sudbury

Caroline Mulroney, daughter of former prime minister and PC leadership candidate was in Sudbury yesterday. The mother of four, layer and businesswoman was at a local establishment, pledging to enhance the Northern Ontario, through the Heritage Fund, as part of her overall presentation. Mulroney says this would all be to ensure the maximum amount of support flows to projects in the region.
 

Fatal Crash in Machmer Township

The OPP out of Machmer Township responded to a fatal collision over the weekend. It happened Sunday afternoon… just before the dinner hour. This is after a 41 year old driver, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree on the south side shoulder of the road. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
 

World Record Attempt in Timmins

World Records stood up to a group of Timmins enthusiasts over the weekend, and escaped unbroken, but not by much considering the attempt. At Sk8te Hollinger the attempt was made to form the longest line of un broken skaters… skaters fell short. 275 people threw on their skates, the record… just under 400. The group will try again next month.
 

Smokin’ Wheels requires Fire Department

Smoke from the wheels pulled a semi-tractor trailer hauling cattle, off the road in Sault Ste Marie over the weekend. It happened Sunday evening… on Highway 17. While Fire Fighters managed the get one of the tires, which was said to be on the verge of exploding, cooled down, Police directed drivers away from the scene. There were no injuries.
 

Sudbury Doctors accepting patients

For the first time in over a decade, family doctors and nurse practitioners in Sudbury area are actively taking new patients. A new report says that the move that will ultimately include more than 115 family physicians breaks a long waiting lists for primary health care. Since the city’s physician recruitment program began in 2008, 62 family doctors or nurse practitioners have started working in Sudbury. Another 15 are slated to set up their practices here in the next few years.
