New Dome coming to Greater Sudbury
A new indoor soccer dome is coming to Sudbury.
The announcement came yesterday courtesy of MPP Glen Thebeault, who says the $4 million-dollar facility, funded by the Government, will be named in honour of Fabio Belli, the municipal councillor and sports booster, one the original champions of the idea.
Fatality on Highway 17, High-school students Injured
A North Shore man is dead… seven students have been injured, following a school bus collision near Spragge. It happened yesterday morning when on Highway 17 near the small North Shore community, west of Serpent River. The driver of the SUV, a 62-year-old from Spragge, was pronounced deceased at the hospital, seven secondary school students from the bus, received treatment for non-life-threating injuries.
21-year-old facing weapon charges
A 21-year-old North Bay man has been arrested after a firearm was discharged in a downtown apartment building. While there were no injuries, a short time afterward officers were able to catch up with the individual and take him into custody through a traffic stop, in the south end of the city. Multiple firearms and ammunition were seized.
Bus service coming back to the Island
Ontario Northland is expanding its bus service to Manitoulin Island. Starting Monday, a new route aimed at making transportation easier for Island residents will provide weekday return service to Sudbury with connections to North Bay. This is the first-time in decades bus service has been offered to the Island.
PET scanner suite awarded for $9 million
A Sudbury construction company has won the bid to build the new PET scanner suite at Health Sciences North. It is a project that is expected to cost roughly $9 million, according to the President and CEO of HSN, Dominic Giroux. Construction begins in a few weeks and will last about nine months.
New proposal released regarding Sault Paramedics
A new proposal from the union representing Sault Ste. Marie paramedics has been released… and it’s demands even more after the municipality contacted its members with details about its contract offer. Local 1359’s plans to go on strike in late February was delayed after the city asked for a ruling on the essential services agreement.
