Bus crash in Greater Sudbury causes delays
It was lights and sirens to a city bus accident yesterday in Greater Sudbury. Reports say that bus left the road and wound up in the ditch on Ramsey Lake Road. Greater Sudbury Police said no injuries were reported but drivers could expect delays in the area. The cause of the crash has not been released.
Nip U obtains 1.3mil in research funding
Researchers at Nipissing University will share in more than $1.3 million, courtesy of federal grant funding to support seven projects. It was announced yesterday by
Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota. The work will include understanding of Nipissing First Nation’s history; Canadian’s participation in sport and the relationships between cultural continuity, physical activity, food and health among Indigenous Peoples.

Algoma U reaches tentative deal with Profs, Librarians
An agreement moving education forward with Full-time faculty has reached at Algoma University. The union representing 57 professors and librarians says while it is a tentative agreement with Algoma University, ratification is expected next week. OPSEU Local 685 has agreed to postpone possible strike action until April 22nd.
Mayors want see immigration increase, in the North
The Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors (or NOLUM) want to see the federal and provincial government implement an immigration pilot project, to help boost numbers in the North. Mayor Christian Provenzano in Sault Ste. Marie played host this week to his mayoral counterparts from North Bay, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Timmins. Census data shows the five communities as sharing 2,285 immigrants from 2011-2016 while the province received 472,170 during the same period.
Snow depths up… go figure.
With winter weather still kicking around for many areas in the North the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority has put out another snow survey. They say that snow depth and water equivalence has increased since the snow pack measurements taken on April 3. NBMCA is now measuring the snow pack weekly, to monitor conditions as we get closer to the spring freshet. A major winter storm is forecasted to bring up to 50 mm of precipitation to the watershed over the next 5 days.
Crime Stoppers looking for a suspected thief
Cochrane Crime Stoppers says that police are looking for a man believed to be involved in a theft. They say officers responded to a theft at a convenience store in the south end of the city. Where a man picked up three cartons of cigarettes and various other items before fleeing the store without paying. His photo can be seen below…
