Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford has won the Ontario election and will lead a majority government as the province’s next premier. When it was all said and done, the PCs were elected in 76 ridings, surpassing the 63 seats needed for a majority. The NDP will form the official opposition at 39, the Liberals came in with seven while the Green Party have one. With the loss, Kathleen Wynn has announced her resignation.
In Sudbury, Jamie West for the NDP has been elected, beating out incumbent Liberal Glenn Thibeault.
In Nickle Belt, France Gélinas has been re-elected.
In North Bay, Vic Vedeli has been re-elected well ahead of the NDP’s Henri Giroux.
In Timmins, voters re-elected Gilles Bisson, this time for the newly-named Timmins riding, while in Timiskaming-Cochrane, John Vanthof, from the NDP has been re-elected.
In Sault Ste. Marie, it couldn’t have been much closer for P.C. Candidate Ross Romano. The PC candidate has been re-elected with just 414 votes over NDP candidate Michele McCleave-Kennedy.
