Black legged ticks found in Greater Sudbury
Residents in the Greater Sudbury area are getting a reminder when it comes to being tick-smart. A new report says that Infected blacklegged ticks have been found in the Sudbury district. The Health unit says although the risk of contracting Lyme disease remains low, people need to protect themselves.
Police looking for those throwing items from an overpass
Police near Sturgeon Falls Police are investigating three separate reports of objects being thrown from a Highway 11 overpass. They say in two cases an unknown persons shot fireworks at cars on the road. Police say there was no damage caused by these incidents.
Fire does damage to outside of the residence
Firefighters from both Timmins and Schumacher were called out to a blaze in the 200 block of Hemlock Street yesterday, while little is known, personnel reported that the fire was confined to the exterior of the house only and that there were no injuries.
Parry Sound forest fire 33 continues to burn
The fire known as Parry Sound forest fire #33 remains dangerously close to the Trans Canada highway. The fire has been described as ‘a beast’ by those fighting it, has grown to over 10,000 hectres or 100 square kilometers.” Parry Sound 33 is located between Georgian Bay and the Trans Canada highway.
Brawl in Greater Sudbury under investigation
Greater Sudbury Police say they responded to a brawl involving dozens of teenagers in Hanmer last night. A 9-1-1 call to Police indicated the teens were fighting, smashing up a car and driving like maniacs up and down Cote Boulevard. There is no final word as to how many teens were involved, nor what charges are going to be laid.
Break-ins under investigation, suspect sought
Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible for a series of recent break-ins and thefts from a local business. They say numerous thefts have occurred at a local construction business located on Mountjoy Street South in the City of Timmins. Suspects allegedly stole large amounts of construction materials and equipment. Police are looking to speak to a suspect last seen wearing a dark colored hooded jacket, dark jeans, white running shoes and wearing a backpack and riding a bike, pulling a bike trailer.

Meanwhile, Sault Ste. Marie police say they are calling on residents to call in information, when they have it on threats to public safety. They say during in the first month of a initiative call “Project High Enforcement” they’ve pulled in narcotics with an estimated street value of $18,000, and several weapons. Approximately 70 arrests were made with nearly 130 charges laid.
