Power outage blamed in blown transformer

A number of people had the power punched out in Greater Sudbury today. At its peak Sudbury Hydro says it affecting approx. 3000 customers in central area of Sudbury including West End, Lorne, Wembley, Kingsmount, York, McLeod, Bell Park, Ramsey Lake Rd areas. This is following a blown transformer at Cressey substation.
 

Class action certified

A breach of privacy class action for North Bay Regional Health Centre has been certified. This is after more than 5,800 patient records were accessed without their consent, allegedly, by a single nurse. The Timeline? Between November 2004 and March 2011.
The nurse in question was charged under the Personal Health Information Protection Act for the breach. Her case was dismissed due to late disclosure of evidence.
 

Old post office heading for a $2 mil upgrade

The federal Service Canada building on Cedar Street South in Timmins is expected to have a brand new look this fall; $2-million facelift according to the Ontario Region office of Public Services and Procurement Canada. The contract for the work in August of 2016.
The building was at one time was the Timmins Post Office.
 

Collision in Sault Ste. Marie at Pine St. and Northern Ave.

Little is known about a two-vehicle collision in Sault Ste. Marie yesterday except to say that it did warrant both a Police and paramedic response. Emergency personnel were called to the scene said to be Pine Street and Northern Avenue shortly after 12 p.m. There is no word as to injuries or charges. There is also no word as to the cause of the accident.
 

One new fire in the North East

The North East gained one new fire yesterday, bringing the total count to 26.  Chapleau 22 measures 0.1 of a hectare and is under control. It is located northeast of Mississagi River Provincial Park. All 26 fires in the area, are under control or being observed.
 

HSN continues to crunch numbers at HSN

Health Sciences North says they’re continuing to crunch numbers, when it comes to balancing hospital’s numbers, but the union representing registered nurses is raising alarm bells once again. They say that just over 60 nursing positions have already been eliminated, and with that 118,000 nursing hours cut since January. They go on to say that the number of beds and services has not decreased, creating a strain on the system. HSN has not confirmed those numbers.
