Levels continue to rise for North Bay waterway
The North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority says as sandbags continue to go down, flood levels locally continue to rise in some place… while some creeks are seeing evidence of decreased flows. Lake Nipissing continues to rise at a rate of 1-2 cm per day and could reach or exceed 196.59 by next week. Flow from the lake into the French River is being incrementally increased as Lake Nipissing’s elevation rises.
Elsewhere the Mattawa River water level stabilized yesterday however upstream reservoirs continue to fill. The Ottawa River at Mattawa has hovered around 155.47m Sunday but it is still expected to rise another 22cm and reach 155.7 in a few days.
A fee is coming for Kivi Park
Kivi Park is Greater Sudbury will soon start charging… the park which has been a popular destination for many since it opened in 2017 offers access to Crown land leading to three lakes, annual operating costs for the park run about $200,000 a year, even with an all-volunteer staff. Beginning in late June, users will have to pay some sort of fee to access the park.
Police catch pair with fraudulent credit cards
North Bay Police have two into custody on a string of charges. It happened when an employee of a business on Algonquin Ave. caught a potential customer of being involved in purchase using a stolen credit card. When police arrived, they determined additional occurrences had happened in Sudbury and Midland.
Next phase of highway 101 project a go
The city of Timmins is turning the key on the next phase of the reconstruction of Highway 101. Last night, Timmins city council awarded a $4.2-million contract to carry out this year’s full reconstruction of a 1.3-kilometre stretch of Highway 101 extending from just east of Goldale Street to the bottom of Rea Hill.
Sudbury left with $2.5 million budget hole
While winter is gone, the hole it left behind may take some time to fill. The city of Sudbury is reporting a more than $2.5 million overage when it came to the budget for winter road maintenance during the first four months of the year. Sudbury had 13 feet of snow over the past winter, including 8.5 feet from January through April.
Truck thieves wanted after abandoning the vehicle
Sudbury area OPP are seeking those responsible for stealing a truck found abandoned. Whoever took the truck evidently got it lodged in the mud in the Whitefish/Panache area. The vehicle was originally taken from a business in Espanola, according to the Manitoulin OPP. The truck is a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado.
