City of Greater Sudbury looks at “Tourism Development Fund”

The City of Greater Sudbury and the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation are working together to launch a tourism development fund. The goal is to have up to $1 million available to invest in private, public and non-profit proposals that would increase visitation and overnight stays in the community.
 

North Bay Police looking into body cameras

North Bay police officers could be wearing body cameras by the end of the year. The chief and deputy chief is studying their use. In the past, the cost was one of the issues, that has significantly decreased… and could be shared by neighbouring services.
 

Missing: 47-year-old Michael Tookate

Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing male, gone two days. 47-year-old Michael Tookate who commonly resides in South Porcupine.
He is described as:
– an Indigenous male with a heavy build
– 5’10 tall
– 210 lbs
– brown medium length hair
– brown eyes
He commonly wears a yellow jacket, white sweater, tan-coloured pants, and rubber boots.
 

Fire in Sault Ste Marie deemed suspicious

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says the fire causing extensive damage to St. Paul Catholic School Tuesday is being considered suspicious. The call came is yesterday at around 5 a.m. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called and will be attending the scene.
 

Projected changes to Junction could cost $12 mil

Project changes including the possible addition of an underground parking structure to Greater Sudbury’s Junction project has boosted the cost by an estimated $8-12 million. Greater Sudbury council received a large projects update on June 9, outlining major construction projects on the horizon.
 

West Ferris planning a graduation ceremony

West Ferris Intermediate and Secondary School says it took some doing, but they will have a graduation ceremony. Roughly 100 students will graduate on June 25. Gagne said each student will be given time to attend the school. They can arrive with their parents or guardians and participate in a curbside event.

The city of Timmins says Canada Day celebrations — will be held virtually this year. The online celebration will include a flag-raising, singing the national anthem, video presentations by local dignitaries, performances by local artists and much more.
