Greater Sudbury says they’ll use funding to support the city budget

The city of Greater Sudbury now say the $12.7 million they’re receiving from the province, will go toward budget stabilization. On Wednesday, $1.6 billion was announced for Ontario’s 444 municipalities. In Greater Sudbury, the funds will be used to offset the expenses and revenue losses incurred due to COVID-19.
 

Two fires in North Bay, both minor

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services responded to two fires yesterday. No injuries were reported from either fire and the damage was contained in both cases. The first fire call was linked to smoking at a Galt Street residence around 12:30 p.m. The second was an hour later on Manitou Street and tied to cooking. Both fires were said to be small.
 

The city of Timmins welcomes Fort Hope First Nation evacuees

The City of Timmins is opening its doors to assist in the evacuation of Fort Hope First Nation. On Tuesday, Fort Hope, declared a state of emergency due to a forest fire burning out of control just west of the community in Kenora District. The First Nation community began evacuating its most vulnerable citizens to safety.
 

Sudbury Catholic District School Board releases plan

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board has unveiled its pandemic back-to-school plan. Much like the one released by the public Rainbow District School Board earlier this week, it takes a similar approach to masks for both students, teachers and support staff. Outdoors times, like recess, will provide an opportunity for students to get a break from wearing a mask… but physical distancing will be key. To that end, all outdoor play structures will be closed. DSSAB eligible for 4.2 million to help homelessness

DSSAB says they’re now eligible to receive an initial planning allocation of just over $4,2 million next year under the second phase of Social Services Relief Funding. The money comes from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and can be used to mitigate risk for homelessness for vulnerable people and provide long term solutions for housing.
 

Bearskin airlines lifting off in September

Bearskin Airlines says flights across Northern Ontario can resume this fall. In exactly one month’s time, it will resume scheduled services, providing service to North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, and Thunder Bay. Companywide protocols have been established to prevent the spread of COVID-19, ensuring the safety of employees and passengers.
