OPP take a man into custody following a weapons incident

Manitoulin OPP says they have a male in custody following a weapons incident. It all began at around 2:30 pm yesterday when officers were dispatched to a call for service at a residence on Wright Street. In a cellphone alert issued to residents in the area, the OPP reported they were responding to an armed individual in the community and advised residents to stay in their homes and lock their doors. Police advised the public would see a heavy police presence in the community. While the details have not been released a suspect has been taken into custody.
 

School bus protocols released for North Bay and area buses

School bus protocols have now been released for the North Bay and area school buses for the fall. While it’s not yet clear how the numbers will work, PHYSICAL DISTANCING ON A SCHOOL BUS, FACE COVERING and assigned SEATING will all take priority. Prior to boarding the bus parents/guardians should ensure that students have sanitized their hands.
 

School bus protocols released for North Bay and area buses

The Polar Bear Express will soon be back on the rails. Running three times a week, starting Sept. 7, the train will operate on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. According to the notice, a fourth day may be added to the service depending on passenger demand. New safety protocols will significantly reduce the capacity of passenger trains to 25-50 per cent of the pre-COVID levels.
 

Terry fox trail closed in Timmins to catch a bear

The city of Timmins has closed a portion of the Terry Fox Trail, it hopes the MNRF can catch a nuisance bear. Police are monitoring the situation carefully, to ensure full safety is adhered to. Constable Marc Depatie says there is a very natural reason for the bears to be there.

The MNRF has set a live trap between Middleton Avenue and Dalton Road.
 

House Fire deemed “suspicious”

A house fire on Finni Road in Wahnapitae has been deemed suspicious. It was around 1:45 am on August 18th when alarms went off. The damage to the home was extensive. Out of two people at home at the time, a 48-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
 

New “Plazma Centre” opens in Greater Sudbury

Despite the pandemic, the Canadian Blood Services is now collecting plasma in Greater Sudbury. The new centre opened this week. While the pandemic slowed construction considerably, the centre is now the first of three new dedicated plasma donor centres to open across the country. People can donate by booking an appointment online.
