One new case of COVID-19 in North Bay District

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19.
The new case is in North Bay District and involves a person between 20 and 39 years of age. The person is currently isolating. The health unit says the individual contracted the coronavirus through community transmission meaning.
 

Porter suspends its travel until December 15

Porter Airlines is extending its suspension of service until just before the Christmas Travel Season. Grounding planes until Dec. 15th, it’s all citing ongoing travel restrictions associated with COVID-19. The company said it would waive fees associated with changes and cancellations on all fares booked through Dec. 15. The airline suspended service on March 21, after the arrival of COVID-19.
 

Timmins applying for connecting link funding, again

Timmins city staff are applying for a $3-million grant. All in collecting link funding, it is the maximum available through the program. If it comes through it will all be for a section of Algonquin Boulevard from Mattagami Boulevard South just east of the bridge to Theriault Boulevard.
 

Power restored after 3,000 left in the dark

The power has been restored to nearly 3,000 customers in Sault Ste Marie. This PUC says it was just before the supper hour, when a tree came into contact with powerlines. It was in the area of Kerr to Fournier, Queen St E. from Lake St to the end of River Rd. Anyone still without power should contact the PUC.
 

Paving work being done on Sudbury Bike Path

Paving work has begun on a bike path in Sudbury. It involves the corner of Notre Dame Avenue and Leslie Street. The project will see the rehabilitation of sidewalks and extend a cycling lane through the Flour Mill.
 

Missing youth – 12-year-old Courtney Mueller

The Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a local youth. 12-year-old Courtney Mueller was last seen on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. She is described as: Caucasian, 5’7” tall, 134 lbs. She was last seen when she left her residence for school.
She has blue eyes, short brown hair and was last seen wearing black leggings with a marble type pattern, red pullover sweater, purple/black running shoes, and a pink backpack.

“Best for kids” rides extended for two years

A pilot project under which could see Sault Ste Marie children allowed to ride city buses free on summer weekends is being extended. Originally approved to run June 27 through to Sept. 6 of this year, the Best for Kids initiative will now go for two more years. The goal is to get kids and a responsible adult to places like the John Rhodes Community Centre pool, skateboard park, pump track and the Manzo and Greco pools.
 

Stobie Mine being taken down

Vale in Greater Sudbury says its Stobie Mine site is now being demolished. It’s all due to reduce maintenance costs and pave the way for potential new development. The operation was shut down in 2017.The company says the work will be done between mid-October and mid-December.
