Witnesses sought following Friday’s Fire
North Bay police are seeking witnesses to Friday night’s fire at Walmart at the Northgate Shopping Centre. Deemed suspicious, the fire, which led to damage from fire and water to the store’s contents is estimated to be in the millions of dollars. There are no reports of injuries.
TDHA reports one health-care worker tests positive for COVID-19
Among the case counts of COVID-19 this weekend, the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) was notified that a health-care worker has tested positive for COVID-19. All potential staff, physician and patient exposures have been identified. As a result and after consultation with the Porcupine Health Unit, the hospital will be reducing its operating room capacity for the next 14 days.

Public Health Sudbury Districts is reported four new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Three of those cases are in Greater Sudbury while the fourth is in the Manitoulin District. Public Health also reported seven resolved cases today.
Sudbury’s board of health has approved a $27.4 mil budget 2021
Sudbury’s board of public health has approved a $27.4-million budget for 2021. That marks increase of 1.5 per cent over the Public Health Sudbury and Districts budget for 2020. The increase is estimated to represent a municipal per capita levy of $2.46 per person
All personnel safe, following “Seismic Event” in Timmins
Underground workers at a Timmins mine are safe after a seismic event. It happened at around 1:45 early yesterday. Glencore Kidd Operations says it happened in the lower level of the mine about 9,600-feet underground. There were 21 people underground at the time.
Jim McAuley passes away at 84-years-old
The Sault’s Jim McAuley, a well-known local businessman, philanthropist, and volunteer has passed away. McAuley, one of the people helped the Soo Greyhounds enter the Ontario Hockey Association in 1972 was also their president for 20 years. He was in hospital at the time of his death. Jim McAuley was 84.
West Nipissing OPP rolling out the festive RIDE program
West Nipissing OPP took the initiative in rolling out the festive RIDE campaign this weekend. The program runs from Thursday to Jan. 3. Police services across the province take part in holiday RIDE programs aimed at taking alcohol and drug-impaired drivers off roadways.
