Two Sudbury schools go to online learning for until the end of the month

St. David Catholic Elementary School is moving to remote learning effective immediately and until Jan. 29. This is as the Sudbury Catholic District School Board said Public Health Sudbury and Districts has asked many staff members to self-isolate as a result of the confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school.

École St-Denis will be closed for two weeks due to a COVID-19 outbreak that was declared at the school by Public Health Sudbury & Districts. The move initially closed the school yesterday. Students are expected to resume in-class learning on Monday, Feb. 1.
 

7-new cases of COVID-19 reported by the PHU

7 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit. All cases are being reported in the Hearst, Hornepayne area. This brings the case count to 9-since the start of the week. All the people are contacts of a case and in self-isolation.
 

Collision takes the life of Sudbury Snowmobiler

A 54-year-old Sudbury man has died after the snowmobile he was driving hit a tree. Police responded to a single snowmobile crash about 10 kilometers north of Moose Mountain Road north of Capreol Sunday afternoon. The collision is still under investigation, but no further information is being delayed.
 

North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit closes trails

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit requiring all OFSC trails and trails utilizing Crown Land to close. This is for the duration of the province’s stay-at-home order. Dr. Jim Chirico, the medical officer of health, said in a release this week, there have been some complaints about sledders travelling from other districts to use the local snowmobile trails, thus putting the district at risk of COVID-19.
 

Arrest warrant issued for Cobalt man

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man after two home invasions in Cobalt. The first incident happened Jan. 15 just before 11 p.m. at a First Street home. The second happened the following day on First Street. In both cases there was a confrontation with home owners. In the first case the individual fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, an ammunition box containing coins, stamps and jewelry. In the second, taken were a lock box containing sport cards, jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash. The culprits fled the scene towards Larose Avenue.
 

Library launces on-line survey toward new strategic plan

The North Bay Public Library says they’re launching a pair of surveys as they develop a new strategic plan. There is both an adult and teen survey. They ask for feedback on services, products, and facilities. The surveys will be available online for three weeks and links to the survey are located on the library web page.
