Member of Greater Sudbury Fire tested positive for COVID-19
At least one member of Greater Sudbury Fire Services tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, a number of other members of the fire department have been required to stay home and self-isolate. The positive case was revealed with within a department meeting yesterday.
Sledders, stay off the waterways – OPP
Two fatal snowmobile accidents over the weekend have the OPP warning snowmobilers to stay off frozen waterways. As some sledding trails are closed, the concern is now sledders may turn to open areas to travel. With Snowmobile Safety Week now underway, the OPP is reporting that six people have lost their lives in snowmobile accidents so far this season.
Greater Sudbury Police seeking missing teen: 16-year-old Jason Mathieu
Greater Sudbury Police are seeking information on the whereabouts of a missing teen. 16-year-old Jason Mathieu. He was last seen Jan. 13th at around 7:30 a.m. on Grenoble Street in Garson. Jason is described as 5-6, 125 lbs. with black hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing black and red shoes; there are no other clothing descriptors at this time.
Skating comes to an end at area arena
Skating activities have been pulled off the ice at the Sunridge Strong Joly Arena as has the ice. The move follows a board meeting after the province announced further lockdown measures, which include arenas as it continues to fight COVID-19 outbreak numbers.
Greater Sudbury budget looking at possible property tax levy’s
Greater Sudbury city council is having their first look at the 2021 budget. Yesterday, a draft was presented by the finance and administration. In short, it could see a 3.9 per cent property tax increase after assessment growth. Council will also have the option for a 2021 property tax increase with a special capital levy of 5.4 per cent.
Scammers using “Caller ID Spoofing”
Hold the phone say North Bay Police. This is after a number of telephone scammers are once again said to be using local phone numbers. There has been a near 20 percent increase in what Police call “caller ID spoofing” compared to last year, where callers can look as though they’re calling from elsewhere. Residents are being told to take care.

OPP clock driver going 50km over the limit
OPP have pulled a speeder off the road. This is after a speeder was caught going 140km per hour in a posted 90 zone on Highway 11 near Moonbeam Township. The 59-year-old driver from Greenstone is a single charge of stunt driving.
Sudbury Paramedics are monitoring vitals for some COVID-19 LTC residents
Sudbury paramedics are now are monitoring the vitals of residents with COVID-19 at Amberwood Suites. It’s all being done through what is called remote clinical monitoring. The resident can take their own vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature and heart rate and the information go directly to the paramedics. 22 people have been registered in the remote monitoring system since Jan. 8th.
