More testing for COVID-19 is happening with admitted patients
Health Sciences North says they have five admitted patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. Seven admitted patients are currently being tested for COVID-19 and awaiting their results. Among COVID-19 case counts yesterday into today, Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported three new cases of COVID-19. At least one of the new cases was outbreak-related.
Porcupine Health Unit looking into possible COVID-19 variant
Elsewhere, the Porcupine Health Unit has reported four new COVID-19 cases. Two of those cases are in the Kapuskasing area, with one being linked to the ongoing outbreak at Extendicare Kapuskasing. The Porcupine Health Unit is now investigating a positive COVID-19 case in their that is a potential variant of concern (VOC).
Tenant escapes out a basement window during fire
A downstairs tenant in a Lasalle Boulevard duplex was without serious injury after an early morning fire yesterday was forced a basement window escape. Thankfully personnel were already on hand to assist. The fire had blocked their primary exit. In all two people were able to get from the building. There is no word on the cause. The damage was pegged at $150k
4-more tickets issued for violating Provincial Lockdown
North Bay police have issued four more tickets and two offence notices in the past week to some not adhering to the provincial lockdown. Four tickets were issued to people not complying with a 14-day isolation upon returning to Canada. Two people were also issued offence notices for making false or misleading statements to a quarantine, screening or environmental health officer.
East Junction project getting $500,000 from Feds
The city of Greater Sudbury’s Junction East project is getting infuse of ½ million dollars. This is according to Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre and Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré. The funds are coming from the federal government. The announcement was made yesterday on behalf of Canadian Heritage Minister.
Snow fall warning, travel advisory in Sault Ste Marie and area
Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory, dressed in a snow fall warning for the areas of Sault Ste. Marie, St. Joseph Island, and Searchmont. As much as 15 – 40cm of snow is expected to fall by this morning. There is also a snowfall warning for those headed North to Wawa, as 20 to 30 cm are likely.
