Much of Ontario begins the Provinces Safe Reopening

27-health unit areas have begun various levels of Ontario’s safe reopening. Among them Public Health Sudbury and Districts along with the Porcupine Health Unit areas enter the “Orange-Restrict”, The Timiskaming Health Unit area enters the “Green-Prevent”, while Algoma Public Health enters the “Yellow-Protect”. The North Bay Parry Sound remains in “Grey or Lock down” until Tuesday, February 22nd at the earliest. The only other areas in lockdown are Peel, Toronto and York.
 

Two more pass away due to COVID-19

Two more residents in the North East have passed away due to COVID-19. The first has been reported at Extendicare Kapuskasing. Meanwhile, Algoma Public Health has reported Algoma’s third COVID-19 related death. No further information has been released.
 

Two members of Canadore College Community test positive to COVID-19

Two members of the Canadore College community have tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement from the college, there is no evidence of on-campus transmission and on-campus activity continues. The two are close contacts of each other are currently self isolating in a campus residence. The individuals were at the Education Centre, at 100 College Dr., from Feb. 8 to 12 during the time of their infectious period.
 

Fire marshal investigates a fatal fire

The Ontario Fire Marshal continues to investigate a fatal fire over the weekend. The call came in from the 500 block of McIntyre St. E. early Saturday. A second person was injured in the blaze. While the fire was extinguished quickly it did require the rescue of one person. The fire started on the ground floor. The cause and damages have yet to be determined.
 

11 students to share $17k in fines for illegal gatherings

Eleven Ontario students have been given fines for illegal social gatherings. This is after the group was found getting together in a remote, rented cottage in Quebec. The group is facing fines totalling at least $17,000 – before any charges to those renting the cottage.
 

Greater Sudbury issues reminder regarding Garbage Pickup

New garbage pickup times in Greater Sudbury are now in full swing. In short while recycling and organic waste is unlimited, there is a two bag limit. For more information, residents can visit greatersudbury.ca/everyotherweek

Missing: 14-year-old Zoe Harper

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting public assistance to locate a missing teen. 14-year-old Zoey Harper. Harper was last seen on Saturday at approximately 5 p.m. in the 500 block of Shannon Road. The teen is known to frequent the downtown area. Full descriptors are:
She is described as being five feet, six inches in height, with a thin build, black and red hair and brown eyes. Zoey was last seen wearing a red jacket, ripped jeans, brown boots and carrying a red and black bag.
