Schools should prepare for “Virtual Grad” says Rainbow District School Board
The Rainbow District School Board is asking to schools to start thinking about another virtual graduation for Grade 8 and 12 graduation students. It’s all in the face of the ongoing pandemic. While the hope is for an in-person event, the board says schools should be ready for the Possibility.
Decision expected today for current lockdown for North Bay Parry Sound area
A decision is expected today from health officials for the current stay at home order for the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit area. While Premier Doug Ford suggested yesterday the government would likely grant a request from Toronto and Peel Region to remain under a stay-at-home order for two more weeks, North Bay’s status has yet to be decided. Ford has said he will back the local medical officers of health.
Missing woman sought by Police
The Timmins Police Service looking for a missing woman. 26-year old Lucy-Ann Wynne. She is described as an Indigenous female person
Height: 5’6” tall
Weight: approximately 175 lbs
Build: medium – long black hair and brown eyes
She has not been seen or been in contact with family members since Feb. 16. She was residing in the west end of the city of Timmins.
One new case of COVID-19 in Elliot Lake Area
One more Algoma District resident has tested positive for COVID-19. The health unit reported the case late yesterday afternoon. The case is from Elliot Lake and area, and is associated with the ongoing cluster investigation at the Warsaw Place building.
Timmins Police make significant drug bust
The streets are all the safer after Timmins Police have made a significant dent into the drug community. With the help of OPP, a search of two residences. 10,000
methamphetamine tablets were seized, as other narcotics and weapons. Seven people were arrested, including two people from Toronto. A couple of suspects were taken into custody following a brief and futile escape on foot.
100 volunteer firefighters sought
The city of Greater Sudbury is looking for volunteer firefighters. As many as 100 of them. During Wednesday’s meeting of the emergency services committee, a request was put to staff to get the wheels in motion for a recruitment drive. Evidently, last year everything was put on hold, due to the pandemic.

Power back on following outage
The power is back on after an outage in Sault Ste Marie. At its height, the outage affecting just over 150 PUC customers in the downtown area, including the Station Mall and ACR Senior Apartments. An equipment failure is being cited as the reason for the outage. Those still without power should contact the PUC.
