A member of Chippewa Secondary tests positive for COVID-19

A member of the Chippewa Secondary School community has tested positive for COVID-19. A notice went out yesterday to parents and guardians informing them of the news. The health unit says there is no risk to the school community as the individual was not in the building during the infectious period.
 

COVID-19 outbreak declared at Central Algoma Secondary School

The Algoma health unit has declared an outbreak at Central Algoma Secondary School. At last report, in at least three grades at CASS had to isolate for up to 11 days after persons with ties to the high school tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, grades 9-12 have switched over to virtual learning. The school remains open for grades k -8. are permitted to remain open for in-person learning.
Five more Algoma District residents have tested positive for COVID-19, four from Central and East Algoma and one from Sault Ste. Marie and area.
 

Vaccines in Greater Sudbury for homeless and housebound

The City of Greater Sudbury has held a vaccination clinic for people experiencing homelessness. It happened Sunday. This comes after the province announced earlier in March that the homeless population was being prioritized in Phase 2 of its vaccine rollout.
Meanwhile,
Greater Sudbury Residents 80-years-of age and older could soon get a home visit for a COVID-19 vaccine. The City and the Health Unit have launched a pilot project in which local paramedics administer COVID-19 vaccine in the homes of homebound individuals born in 1941 or earlier, or who receive chronic home care service. The goal is to permit access to the COVID-19 vaccine for eligible individuals unable to leave their homes.
 

COVID-19 outbreak is over at Kirkland Lake Gold’s Macassa mine

The COVID-19 outbreak at Kirkland Lake Gold is over. The outbreak was made at the Kirkland Lake Gold’s Macassa mine in Early March. The Timiskaming Health Unit (THU) announced today that the outbreak is over. To date in the Timiskaming area, there have been 107 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those, 105 are recovered and one person has died. There is one known active case. The Timiskaming region is currently in the orange – restrict zone of the provincial COVID-19 Regional Response Framework.
 

Boil water advisory for some Elliot Lake residents

A boil water advisory is being issued for a number of Elliot Lake residents. The notice went out for residents from 112 – 118 and 120 Hutchison Avenue, as well as Fatima and George Vanier Schools. The health unit says that whenever any kind of repair or construction on the water supply system either planned or an emergency, there is a risk of soil or other contaminants entering the water supply.
 

Lots for sale at Flintstone Park

Flintstone Park and its playground are staying in Timmins, and now two lots in a smaller corner are up for sale. Two 40 x 150 ft. un-serviced lots have been listed for sale by the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. All up they make up about 10% of the entire park area. The realtor has the lots listed at $40,000.00 each.
