Splash pads continue to open in Northern Ontario

Days after the North Bay Splash Pad opened in North Bay, time for the Bellevue Park Splash Pad.  It opens in Sault Ste Marie today. Public health measures including physical distancing and adhering to social gathering limits must be maintained, and a request has come down to consider limiting the time of use to make room for others. The city’s outdoor Manzo and Greco pools will open in early July.
 

Sudbury Libraries lending out park passes

Sudbury libraries are lending out park passes. Ontario Parks can now be checked out for up to seven days. The pass provides free entry to the park for one vehicle and its passengers and covers any provincial park for the day, including long weekends. Sudbury’s 13 library locations each have three passes that members can borrow first come, first served.
 

Timmins Police investigating “Serious crash”

Timmins Police is investigating a serious crash involving a pickup truck and motorcycle. The collision happened at the intersection of Mountjoy Street South and Kent yesterday. The intersection was is closed to traffic and pedestrians for the investigation. The driver of the motorcycle has been brought to Timmins and District Hospital and sustain serious injuries, according to police. Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call the police.
 

No in-person grads this Spring for Rainbow Schools

The Rainbow District School Board has confirmed that its schools will not be holding in-person graduation ceremonies. While they’ve been given the green light by the province, it can only go ahead where physical distancing is possible. The board says the move protects the health and safety of would-be participants.
 

6-new cases of COVID-19 in for NBPS district

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reports a spike in COVID-19 cases yesterday with 6 new cases. All but one current case are in the Nipissing District. There has also been a variant originating from India reported. The adult vaccination rate in the district has reached 70 percent.
 

More bike lanes, walkways coming to Timmins

More bike lanes and walking paths are coming to Timmins. The build is a result of infrastructure money recently granted to the city of Timmins by the senior levels of government. The $318,000 will extend the multi-use path along Airport Rd., all the way to Riverpark Rd. It will also paint markings for designated bike lanes along Theriault Blvd. to Jubilee Ave., and along with Jubilee to Pine St.
