Greater Sudbury lifts the fire ban
Greater Sudbury has lifted the fire Ban. The fire ban was declared June 7 because of extreme temperatures, dry conditions and safety concerns related to preventable wildfires and their spread. The fire hazard in Greater Sudbury and area remains high… the temperature is not expected to push past 19 degrees today.
Work begins on a new Health Care expansion
Work has started on a new Health Centre expansion at the Mindemoya hospital on Manitoulin Island. It was hit was some delays due to the pandemic, work is now moving. The 5-million-dollar expansion, 2,700 hundred feet in size will include better airflow, better lines of sight, better care when it comes to chemotherapy and a dedicated mental health observation area.
Powassan area farmers set up their 2nd Farmstand Tour
Powassan area farmers are now taking part in a farmstand tour includes the town and neighbouring townships. Nearly 30 of them so far have been setting up shop. Fresh produce and meat products are being sold. Evidently, the second year for the project, and has seen significant growth.

Local 6500 reject VALE’s second offer
Members of United Steelworkers Local 6500, have voted to reject the VALE’s second offer of a new five-year Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is after the Steel Workers bargaining committee unanimously endorsed the Company’s original offer that was voted down by the members in May. Operations in Sudbury remain idle as the labour dispute continues.
Rail upgrades coming to the Hwy 11/17 crossing
Rail upgrades are on the way for the railway crossing at the 11/17 bypass in North Bay. It’s being federally funded. Over $143,000 in federal funding is being used to upgrade the lights to LED standards. The project will also upgrade the advanced warning system to include constant warning time at the intersection

One new fire in the North East
One new fire has flared up in the North East. Kirkland Lake 5 is listed as under control at 0.1 of a hectare. The fire is located west of Elk Lake. There are four other active fires in the region, which are either being held or under control.
Sault Ste Marie Council votes to look at options for new transit terminal
And Sault Ste Marie city council has voted to look at Dennis and Queen as a possible site for a new downtown bus terminal. The move essentially sends the process back to the drawing board on their proposed relocation of the main transit terminal to 111 Huron Street. While the decision does not mean they’ve abandoned the Huron Street location, it does give them room to consider a new build closer to the city core.
