Lifeguards call it a season in Greater Sudbury

The City of Greater Sudbury says their lifeguards, have called it a season. At all seven public beaches, lifeguards are no longer on duty. The city approved service for nine weeks of lifeguard supervision during the summer months. Children must be supervised and within arms’ reach of an adult caregiver at all times. Older children are reminded to swim with a buddy.
 

COVID-19 advisory CANCELLED

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has rescinded potential exposure to COVID-19. It’s for anyone who attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saturday, Aug. 21. Once again, that COVID-19 exposure warning has been cancelled.
 

Missionary work getting done in North Bay

Two notable North Bay structures are getting a facelift. The Samuel de Champlain monument located in the centre of the turnaround at Champlain Park in the city’s south end and the “Gateway of the North” stone arch in Lee Park. It will happen over next six months or so. The City says a $65,000 contract for the refurbishment of both monuments was awarded for the work.
 

Roadwork in Timmins on Algonquin Blvd. continues

Roadwork on a section of Algonquin Boulevard from the Mattagami bridge to Theriault Boulevard in Timmins starts today. As a result, the road closure on Algonquin Boulevard will be extended to include the Theriault Boulevard intersection. The $7.2-million project includes a full reconstruction of water, sanitary and storm infrastructure, new curbs and sidewalk, new asphalt and new light standards. $3 million of the overall cost is being funded by the Province.
 

One new fire in the North East

The Ministry of Natural Resources Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division has confirmed one new forest fire in the northeast. As of yesterday evening, Cochrane 28, located north of Lake Abitibi, is currently at 100 hectares and not under control. It’s one of three active fires in the region not under control.
 

A new illegal trash dumping campaign starts up

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers has announced a new illegal trash dumping campaign. In three phases, the focus of the effort is to mitigate illegal trash dumping for citizens, wildlife, and the environment. Phase 1, includes survey research to determine the scope of the problem in this region, Phase 2 will focus on education and signage and during Phase 3, volunteers will assist local environmental groups to clean up waste on land as well as in lakes and waterways.
 

Timmins Police looking for a wanted man

Timmins Police are looking for a wanted person and advising not tot pick up any hitchhikers on Hwy. 655 north of Ross Ave. There is no threat to public safety, but advise it all began with a man running away from a traffic stop. Those in that area should call police if they see anything suspicious.
 

Soo Drivers, watch your speed

More Sault Ste. Marie residents are complaining about drivers with a heavy foot. So much so, it’s gotten the attention of Police. Traffic services adds speeders are especially common on all major straight away roads including Black Road, Second Line to Fifth Line and Base Line.
