Greater Sudbury Police launched their Tactical Emergency Medics Program today, in collaboration with the City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services. It begins this afternoon at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre in Azilda. Members of the TEMs Team and Members of our Emergency Response Team (ERT) will be conducting a scenario, that will be using blank rounds to simulate gunfire, and there is no reason for concern.
Timmins Police charge a Cochrane man with theft
The Timmins Police Service has charged a Cochrane man with theft. This stems from an incident that occurred on Monday, at a west-end hardware store in Timmins. Allegedly, the man had gathered up a number of power tools and fled the store on foot without making any attempt to pay for the items in his possession. The 30-year-old from Cochrane was found a short distance away, and following an investigation, he was arrested.
Van accident slows traffic in Sault Ste Marie at Rail line
An accident slowed traffic yesterday in Sault Ste Marie. It involved a white van at Second Line, taking out a fence in the process. Shortly after 11 a.m, Sault Police Services and EMS attended the scene of a collision near the intersection of Carmen’s Way and Second Line. There is no word on injuries but one vehicle did strike the railway crossing. No physical injuries have been reported at this time.
GSP arrest 6-in major narcotics Bust
Greater Sudbury Police kicked a major dent in the illegal drug community yesterday, arresting several people in the process. Working in connection with OPP, narcotics with a street value of $218,000, as well as a weapon and cash was seized. Six people have been charged, including two in their twenty’s from Greater Sudbury, as well as two teens out of Toronto.
Power outage blamed on animal interference
The PUC in Sault Ste Marie, says the power is back on following an outage impacting customers in the north end of the city. The call came in just before 9 pm yesterday. At the height of the outage, just over 1,200 (1,225) customers were affected from Great Northern Road at Northern Avenue to the Third Line. The cause of the outage has been identified as animal Interference.
Intermural and interschool sports head back to school in North Bay/Parry Sound
Intramural and inter-school sports and clubs heading back to school at the Near North District School Board. The announcement from the board, also indicates OFSAA will be on the docket. They do say they will be consulting with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and other area boards to develop health and safety protocols.

Algoma University says both smoking and vaping are banned on campus starting today. The post-secondary institution said its intent is to create a healthier environment for those living and working on campus. The use of tobacco for smudging will be permitted on university grounds.
Discussion continues over the fate of Manitoulin School
Discussions are continuing over Mindemoya Old School on Manitoulin Island. In short, as the building passed 100-years this weekend, the question now is what to do with it. An organization known as “Friends of the Mindemoya Old School” says the municipality should maintain the building and repurpose it if necessary as it holds historical significance and remains in good structural shape. Central Manitoulin Municipal Council says it costs $7,000 every year to maintain the building, and they would like to take it down to save those annual costs.
