Driver clocked going 110kph on Regent Street in Greater Sudbury
Provincial police have charged a 22-year-old Sudbury driver with stunt driving. This is the male was caught, allegedly travelling at 110 kilometres an hour on Regent Street. Regent Street is a 60-km/h zone. The accused was released and will be in court in January.
Callander’s Centennial Park is getting replaced
The town of Callander is getting a new playground at Centennial Park. The work is planned for completion in the Spring of 2022. The entire playground will be replaced with new equipment. It will come with an over $200k ($213,755.68) price tag. Why upgrade? The current wooden structure is becoming more and more difficult to maintain
Kirkland Lake OPP respond to ATV collision
Kirkland Lake OPP and Emergency Services responded to a report of a collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle. It happened on Station Road in the Town of Kirkland Lake. Two people were injured in the collision, one of them sustaining life-threatening injuries The investigation is ongoing as to the cause.
A program is underway to help those in need with work in Sudbury
A new program this year in Greater Sudbury to help those in need. In the downtown core, those are struggling with homelessness are being given an opportunity to help certain areas of the downtown clean. While It started in April with people given an honorarium for shovelling snow, it continued this summer with garbage cleanup. The managing director of downtown Sudbury says there is no application process and no formal interview process.
One new fire confirmed in the North East
One new wildland fire was confirmed in the northeast region yesterday. Parry Sound 10 is currently not under control at 0.2 of a hectare. This is as eight other active fires burn in the region. Of those, five are being observed, two are under control, and one is being held.
Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas concerned over Highway 144 safety
Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas has launched a petition aimed at increasing road safety. It’s for a stretch of Highway 144, that has seen a number of accidents this Summer, including one where the Ornge air ambulance was called in. The MPP is calling for more funding to increase safety in the vicinity of Marina Road to prevent further accidents.
Firearm seized at a traffic stop in North Bay
The North Bay Police have taken a firearm off the streets. This is after a vehicle stop, on Lakeshore and Judge. The individual was found to be in breach of probation. The 25-year-old man faces 11 charges.
Sault Ste Marie Transit launches on-demand weekend service
Sault Ste. Marie Transit Services is creating an on-demand service for both Saturdays and Sundays. Beginning the evening of September 11, Transit Services will implement On-Demand Transit Technology for both Saturday and Sunday evening service. Similar to Sunday service, Saturday on demand will run from 7:15 p.m. to midnight, with a final booking time for a ride at 11:30 p.m. For more click here.
